lyrics

On the eve of the wedding,
as the sun was setting,
Rio slipped on his coat.
Heading for the tree line,
with his sisters in mind,
he carried father's axe alone.

The moon cast borrowed light
amidst a heavenly choir
set in mythic shapes
the ancients long had named.

Rio paused to laud
the Mount that birthed this land
and its canopy
stretched out infinitely.

"Bless you, Rock,
Unchanging One.

With river pure,
You quench our thirst.
With mountain game,
You fill our plates.
Your towering frame
fends off the Gale.
Your pines alone
have warmed our home."

As he raised the axe to the sky
to fell the tree of his eye,
Rio heard a stir up the slope.
On the moonlit Mount's side,
with a leaden-swing stride,
a panther tracked down the snow.

Fearing for his life
and what might be required,
he charged the umbral beast,
when lo, it froze to speak,

"Rio, son of Benjamin,
thou came to feed a fire,
yet I clearly see
there is more in store for thee, for you have

Blessed the Rock,
the Unchanging One.

You see,
the dawn of time
grew like the vine,
spreading its shoots
to form new fruit.
Mount March's gaze
observed the change
and simply stood,
deeming it good."

PANTHER
"Rio, you were named with wisdom,
salvation of this land
flowing from the Fount of Ages
to every open hand.
One day, you will climb this incline
to the tall, misty peak,
discover endless, hidden treasure,
and, finally, set it free."

RIO
"Please, dear wildcat of mystery,
there's much for me to ask.
How can you've seen the birth of all things
and know what's yet to pass?"
Before he could pose more questions,
the Sun began to show,
lightning flashed, the beast dissolved,
and it left as blackish smoke.

"How I've sought truth and love all my life,
and I've found the path in one night!"
With arms heavy with wood for the bride,
Rio felt his heart burn inside.
